Garden City Classes

GroupWise Email
Email Archiving, Setting Up Proxy Access and
Creating Bulk and Vacation Rules

Thursday, January 24, 2008 – 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM

Overview:
This workshop will empower you to reap the benefits of properly archiving email messages so that your inbox is less cluttered and you can always find what you need. You will also learn how to set up a proxy to another email address, create a rule for bulk mail, and create vacation rules.

At Workshop Completion:
You will leave with the knowledge of how to successfully manage unwanted messages in your primary mailbox and force them into sub-folders you will have created. You will know how to engage "proxy access" and how to create rules for different circumstances, such as when you'll be out of the office.

Mail Merge – Envelopes and Labels
Tuesday, January 29, 2008 – 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM

Overview:
This workshop will focus on executing a mail merge, and incorporating the mail merge process to envelopes and labels.

At Workshop Completion:
You will be able to take your MS Excel Address Worksheet and print letters, labels, and envelopes using the MS Word mail merge process.

Advanced Formatting and Formulas

Tuesday, March 18, 2008 – 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM

Overview:
Learn various advanced techniques of Excel that will improve office productivity when using spreadsheets.

At Workshop Completion:
You will be able to make your existing spreadsheets perform better with the creation of simple calculation formulas of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. You will be able to create a comparison data spreadsheet and create charts with your data.



Microsoft Access
Creating a Basic Database

Tuesday, March 4, 2008 – 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM

Overview:
This workshop will introduce the basics of database concepts and terminology of MS Access Level 1.

At Workshop Completion:
You will be able to create and examine your information into tables via the Table Wizard, as well as how to create a table using the Design Viewer. You will learn how to produce forms, reports, and queries from your newly created table and understand the simple relationship between two tables.

Internet Security Awareness

Thursday, April 10, 2008 – 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM

Overview:
This workshop will focus on computer network security concepts and practices which introduce common security threats and issues, as well as ways that you can counteract them. Participants will identify and apply these techniques to common job activities.

At Workshop Completion:
You will come away with knowledge that can be used both at work and at home. You will be able to identify email security threats, correctly install and run antivirus software; secure your data with periodic back ups; and maintain file security. We will also cover how your information can be stolen from your PC; Internet browser security, especially with online banking; how to identify instant-messaging hazards; and Web sites that predators are known to frequent.

Overview:
This workshop will cover the frequently asked questions that Customer Services receives on a regular basis. Please bring your own technology-related questions to the workshop and we will explore answers to these questions during this session.

At Workshop Completion:
You will have the answers to the technology questions that have been on your mind, and will learn many other tips and tricks from the Customers Services staff.


What is eCampus?

Thursday, February 14, 2008 – 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM

Overview:
In this workshop we will present an overview of the different services that are offered through Adelphi's eCampus portal.

At Workshop Completion:
You will be able to navigate through the tabs and launch buttons within eCampus to access those services and applications that are available to you based on your user profile. You will be able to customize eCampus to access the information that is most relevant to you.


Imaging Tips and Tricks

Tuesday, February 19, 2008 – 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM

Overview:
This workshop will explore various topics to improve your productivity using the powerful imaging tools available on a PC.

At Workshop Completion:
You will be able to scan and edit pictures, and use software to condense the file size when you want to send several pictures in an email. You will be able to add the Adelphi logo as letterhead in your work documents. You will learn how to back up your files by using a writable CD or USB flash drive.


Creating Office Publications

Thursday, February 28, 2008 – 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM

Overview:
This workshop will teach you how to make simple and professional looking office publications using Microsoft Word and Publisher on a PC.

At Workshop Completion:
You will be able to create flyers, postcards, and newsletters; make useful signs for posting in your office; learn how to make your own nameplate.


File Management

Thursday, April 24, 2008 – 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM

Overview:
This workshop will focus on the procedures for creating a folder structure to keep your computer files organized.

At Workshop Completion:
You will know how to efficiently make folders and subfolders, and learn the best ways to name your files and folders in a way to keep them organized. You will know what the network "H:" and "I:" drives are and how to use them.


Windows Computer Essentials

Thursday, May 1, 2008 – 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM

Overview:
Learn how to keep your computer up to date with the latest Windows security patches and software enhancements using Microsoft Update. You will also learn how to keep your computer running at its peak performance.

At Workshop Completion:
You will know how to run Windows Disk Defragmenter Software and learn to set that process to run automatically every month to keep your computer running optimally. You will be able to setup the anti-virus software on your computer to scan for viruses on a daily basis. You'll know the difference between malware, spyware, and adware and will know how to clean your computer of these unwanted intruders.
