Account and Billing Questions

Q: What is DRM?
A: DRM stands for Digital Rights Management. It's computer code that acts like a protective digital wrapper for copyrighted media files. All of the copyrighted music and movie files on Ruckus contain DRM, which keeps the good stuff accessible to Ruckus users while preventing non-authorized individuals from getting a hold of it.

Q: How do I cancel a service?
A: You will not see the unsubscribe link if you are using our free student music offer or if school pays for your movies or portability subscriptions. If this is the case, you will not need to unsubscribe or delete your account because you are not being billed.

Log in to your account at www.Ruckus.com. Next to the Welcome message, there is a link for your My Account page. Click on My Account and then click on 'Unsubscribe' link next to the Service (subscription) you wish to cancel.

Q: How do I download a song from Ruckus?
A: Once you have created an account and logged in to www.ruckus.com, you can browse through the site or use the search function to locate the track, album, or artist you desire. Whenever you see such a listing, click the Download button. The Ruckus Player will automatically open (if you installed it), showing you the progress of each song as it is transferred to your machine. When downloading multiple songs, you can look to the status bar at the bottom of the screen for overall progress.

  1. After logging in, click on the Music tab. To download an album you see listed, click on the 'Details' button.
  2. Check the boxes of the track you wish to Download then click on the 'Download' button.
  3. First Time Only - Choose if you have already installed the Ruckus Player. You will need the Ruckus Player to download your songs even if you will use another media player to play them. Click here to download the Ruckus Player.
  4. Enter in your account email address (lowercase) and password then click 'Log In'. (see our Invalid username/pw guide for help)
  5. You can see the progress of your songs downloading right away.

Q: How do I download an entire album?
A: All Ctrax songs may be downloaded. Check the Info column to the far right of the Search Results window. This column lists what you may do with each track. A shopping cart icon indicates that a track is available for purchased download. A downward arrowhead indicates that a song may be downloaded as a subscription download.

Q: What file format and bit rate are the downloaded software?
A: Ruckus downloads use Windows Media Audio (WMA) and Windows Media Video (WMV). The bit rate will vary by record company. ost record labels use 192 kbps, however one label requires their tracks to be 128. We receive many of our tracks in digital format directly from the record labels. If this is the case, the record label determines if they use lossless compression or not. Some smaller label's CDs are ripped at 192 lossless.

Q: How can I transfer or copy my Ruckus music to a second computer?
A: The best way to share music between two computers is to use the My Neighborhood function of the Ruckus Player. All you have to do is to get both computers on the same network subnet. Some campuses separate their wired/wireless networks, so you may want to get both computers on one kind. Open up the Ruckus Player and browse the My Neighborhood tree for your other computer.

Publishing a playlist on your old laptop and then downloading it on your new laptop will save your listing of files, but it would take the time to download them again. The help article on how to publish a playlist is here.

You can also save the files on a CD (data..not music) or other portable drive then import them into the player on the other computer.

We recommend using My Neighborhood between the two computers.
